There’s a couple of metaphors worth mixing in this picture. One about not knowing what’s behind the door without opening it, and when opportunity knocks…
But there’s been a tougher lesson I’ve had to learn behind the door to my studio… it’s to shut out the world when I close the door behind me.
Most work-at-home people can relate. Yes, it’s awesome to work from home. But just because you’re there doesn’t mean you have time to do the laundry, unload the dishwasher, pay bills, or prepare meals for the week. I’m not trying to get out of doing those things, but the point is, when I’m in my office, I have a finite amount of time to be productive.
Particularly, as a voice over talent who needs to record. It requires a lot of detail work, which is a post unto itself. But I can’t work on the minutiae of my job if I’m thinking about what else I have to do that day. Men have never been multi-taskers anyway.
So, when the door closes it’s time to be a little selfish and focus on my work.
Now… where was I?
